Sunday
This morning I fixed sourdough pancakes. They are much thinner than "normal" pancakes, and definitely had a sourdough flavor -- but they were good. It's hard for me to say after only this one time of having sourdough pancakes which one I like better. I'm used to the other way, but that doesn't mean I didn't like the sourdough ones. I'll probably do both for a while and figure out which one is better.
For lunch we had sweet potatoes, turnip greens, and cornbread. We ate out on the patio under our new umbrella. Friday evening we bought a new push mower (ours had fulfilled its duty) and while we were there got an umbrella for our table, too.
Friday night we spent the night out at David's parents'. That was a nice treat. We got home a little after lunch time on Saturday.
Jayden is having trouble keeping her food down; she's throwing up a lot. She's not having other symptoms, though, so it's a little confusing. She does seem to be responding to Imitrol (sp?). We'll give her a dose in the morning and try to take her to school and see how she does.
Last night I made sourdough bread in my bread machine. I let the machine do the kneading and then put the dough in my loaf pan to rise and then baked it in the oven. It turned out well. This was Attempt #3; the first two loaves turned out the best so far. I'm going to keep working on it.
For supper last night we tried a recipe my sister had given me, Barley and Asparagus. We liked it. And I have leftover asparagus we'll get to eat later in the week.

Monday
Even though I didn't get as much sleep last night as I'd hoped, I still managed to get up okay this morning and start my day well. I could tell I was a little sleepy this morning, and I've had the munchies pretty bad; I've picked up on a pattern there when I haven't had enough sleep.
David got up at 4:15 to have some more good, quiet, last-minute study time this morning for his two big biology exams today. I think 4:15; maybe 4:45. Early, regardless. I joined him at 5:30. I did get to run for about 15 minutes, and enjoyed that. I was proud of myself, too. Then I read a chapter in Mark (Jesus teaching the disciples), ate breakfast (oatmeal with bananas and a slice of sourdough w/ peanut butter, and a prune), and got ready for school. Got the kids ready (except David fed Joshua, a big help), and made good time getting us all to school this morning.
Had a pretty quiet day at school today. Got my test for tonight and my test for tomorrow finished. I still have to prepare the exam I give Thursday. I have a week of grading ahead of me.
Got to go home for a few minutes this afternoon, and enjoyed that. Got our electric bill in -- once again higher than expected. =-( But it's okay. I guess rates are going up. And some good news in the mail today: David received his certification letter from Cooper Institute. He has successfully completed their course on Providing Dietary Guidance. Very neat! I am proud of him.
Speaking of, he had his two big biology tests today, one in class and one in lab. He feels good about the test in lecture and "okay" about the practical in lab. I told him he worked hard and did his best, and to be proud. Besides, it may be designed so that you're not supposed to know all the answers. We'll see how the two turn out. On his first test in class, he made the second highest grade in the class. This was his first practical, so he doesn't really know what to expect.
I think these may have been his only tests this week. So maybe the rest of his week will be pretty easy for him.

Sunday
Today was nice. The weather was a little cloudy, but nice. It was time change, and we didn't get up quite as good as we intended, but it was still okay. We had a simple breakfast -- sourdough bread with apricot preserves and fruit, and got ready for church. Today was our first Sunday in months we didn't have a Sunday school lesson to print, grab supplies, etc. That was a nice break. We were in the mood to wear spring clothes but I figured we better wear our more wintery things a few more weeks, while we still can.
Heath taught the Sunday school lesson on worship. It was a good reminder about focusing on Who God is and focusing on Him, and not depending on our own strength. Then for church, I couldn't get my synthesizer to play right in the sound system, so I went on over to chapel -- it was my week to have the lesson. I got to teach on The Last Supper, which went well. The kids listened really well, even though it was a long story. I really enjoy getting to teach the story. It's my turn every 8 weeks. Then I went over to the 1st-2nd grade chapel to make an announcement about GEMS for the girls and Pioneer clubs for the boys. That was a lot of fun. The kids were really cute. Saturday we're taking both groups to Jackson to the natural science museum. I think that will be fun. David will drive the bus. I think we're planning on taking the kids. I don't know why we wouldn't.
We ate our lunch (sweet potatoes, mustard greens, and cornbread, yum) out on our patio, which was really nice. Then we had a nice, relaxing afternoon. I did go to Super 1 and Brookshire's to get some things for David; in Pioneers tonight they were learning about Bible Times foods and Bible Times games. For their food, they ended up doing lentils (the boys turned up their noses and wouldn't even try them -- but it's okay, I got to eat them for supper with leftover cornbread!), flatbread (we just used one of the ready-made pizza crusts), and grapes. David said they did eat some of the bread and grapes. (They were supposed to dip their bread in the lentils. We tried it; it was good.) Oh, and through this, I learned that Progresso sells a can of lentils (lentil stew); that's what I bought tonight that was offered to the boys. But it was almost $2 at Super 1. Although it tasted fine, and the ingredients were okay (the last thing was "Natural Flavors," but the label did say No MSG), it's not very cost efficient. You can buy a whole bag of lentils for less than $2 -- less than $1, I think. (I'll find out soon, when I buy more lentils. I had stocked up so I haven't bought any in a while.) These had a little bit of celery, and maybe carrots, and I know a little bit of spinach (but hardly any -- unless you read the ingredients, you wouldn't know it had spinach). Still, that gives me another idea for leftover greens.
Speaking of, in this issue of Prevention magazine, they have a feature on greens (Swiss chard); they say first to make the greens, then make an Asian soup (chicken broth with leftover greens) and then a flatbread Greek pizza (greens, tomatoes, feta cheese, etc.) I think that's definitely worth trying!
I had three girls tonight in GEMS, and they were good and it was fun. We did our Creation lesson tonight. We went for a "nature walk" around the church and talked about things God created. Then we came back inside and made a Creation Collage. They did really well. I don't know why my group has been so low lately. It has been a different 2 and 3 each week, so if they would all come -- I have about 15, I think, on my roll, most of whom come at least occasionally. I'll have a big group of new 1st graders coming up in the fall, too.
Everyone else is already in bed. I think I'll go there now, too. I plan on getting up early in the morning. I didn't run at all this past week; I've got to do better about that this week. I've got a week full of grading ahead of me; I give tests in all 3 classes, one tomorrow night, one Tuesday, and one Thursday. Grading is not my favorite thing! But it will be alright. I'll survive.

Wednesday
Today I kept Jayden home from school because she threw up several times yesterday, and again sometime during the night or early morning. But she had a good day and didn't throw up today, so we're planning on her going back to school tomorrow. She played outside most of the day today. It was very pretty. I was able to bring some work home and get a few things done while she played.
We kept her with us during church tonight, which worked out okay. Mom took her out during the sermon. The sermon tonight was on Knowing God. It was good. I played the piano tonight.
We had a yummy supper of spaghetti and broccoli and salad. We finished up our lentils last night; I'll make some more of those soon!
I have to add my cup of flour to my sourdough starter tonight. I'll add another cup tomorrow night and then I'm supposed to be able to make bread on Friday. I hope it turns out okay. This is my first attempt, and I'm not quite sure what to expect.
I'm pretty tired tonight. I also need to put the sheets back on our bed -- so I think I'll go do those two things (bread and sheets) and crash. I want to get up early in the morning.

Sunday
Today has been a good Lord's day. The weather is chilly, but nice. Church was good this morning. David finished up the 8-week series in the auditorium adult Sunday school class on A Biblical Perspective of Health this morning. He did a good job. The sermon today was good; I was sleepy, but it was good. Bro. John is preaching a series on "What to do when you don't know what to do." Today was on remembering Who God is. Reverencing Him for Who He is; realizing how awesome He is. Worship Him for His Holiness. It was really good. The whole series has been.
David started running a fever last night suddenly, so today he's resting. I hope he feels better soon.
Tonight I'm back with the GEMS girls. Our lesson tonight is Josiah -- one of my favorite stories! I need to look over it again.
Today I had lunch by myself, but it was very tasty. I had a sweet potato (yum!) and lentils and cornbread. Jayden ate it well, too.
This afternoon I've been able to get my dishes washed and put my oatmeal on to soak for tomorrow's breakfast. I'm hoping to get another loaf of bread made and some pumpkin muffins, too.
Oh yeah, if you missed the NIGHTLINE feature Wednesday night (February 28), here is a web link to the article and video we were sent:

You can find out more information about PMD, Jacob and his family, and this potential medication at curepmd.com. As I find out more, I'll try to post it here, too. Just keep Joshua in your prayers: for therapy and insurance and now this possible medicine.

March!
Wow, it's hard to believe it's already March 1. The weather was beautiful today, wasn't it? Not really, it was cloudy and stormy. But it looks like the sun is out now. Maybe it didn't get too bad today.
We ended up staying up to watch the Nightline program last night. It was a 10-minute human interest story; well-produced, but leaving us with a lot of questions. But the Lord has answers! And we'll find out in time. So we didn't get to bed early and I am tired today.
On top of being tired and the yucky weather, today was a difficult topic in class, which made for a not-fun morning. Well, I'm a nerd, so I don't mind the difficult topic, but I don't think the students enjoyed it much. I'm not sure what I can do about that.
This morning I got to run for 10 minutes (better than nothing!) and read in Mark about the temptation of Jesus and calling the disciples. Oh, and Jesus cast out some demons, too. Last night at church Bro. John gave an awesome sermon about Knowing God. There are two main ideas: you can know about God and you can KNOW God. He preached knowing about God last night and will preach on KNOWING God next week. Which reminds me: I need to put playing the piano on my calendar for next week.
We're going to the circus Saturday; I'm looking forward to it. I haven't been to the circus in ages.
